Rabbi Jesus,
You have written your commands in my heart so I am not helpless to know which way to go. Even so, I'm helpless to fulfill and satisfy the demands of the law apart from you. It is so simple; love the Lord my God above all else, and love all your children the way you love them, without criticism, judgement, or rejection. Simple to understand. Not simple to do.
Why do I chase after so many other things? They don't lead anyplace I want to go! What is the relentless attraction to compete with others or belittle them? When will my ignoble impulses be permanently conquered? When will the evil desires of my flesh be merely a memory?
For as long as I live in this frail body, the battle rages. Every fiber of my being is racked with the process of renewal, out of the fallen DNA of my father Adam, being transformed into the redeemed genetic code of my Father God. Jesus, by the power of Your Spirit in me, each day's battle brings me closer to the final end of this war.
Let your Spirit reign in me. Loose your power to transform me. Release in my mind and heart images of the purpose for the creature you designed me to be, and move me into the completion of your desires. AMEN.
Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts.
Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace.
Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.
